What are the specifics that makes an Ultrabook different from any other laptop?

Q. Im going to buy a new laptop soon and I want to understand if this is a superior type than any other or is it just some fancy named laptop?

A. An Ultrabook is a higher-end laptop that's designed to reduce bulk without compromising performance. You'll recognize an Ultrabook-style laptop by it's very thin, (typically) unibody chassis (meaning the entire chassis is made of a single piece of metal as opposed to several parts that detach), omission of optical drives (CD/DVD), and occasionally the omission of other adapters, like Ethernet, FireWire, or USB. If you're not concerned about the thinness, weight, or aesthetic of an ultrabook, you might not be able to justify the price, which is typically up to several hundred dollars more than a similarly-featured standard laptop.

Are Ultrabook good for graphic design work?
Q. If so, which is a good brand model to get?

A. As good as other laptops if you want one with discrete GPU. Of course, i7 qm is the best CPU, however, ...

Thanks!

What Ultrabook would you suggest to turn someone from Apple?
Q. My friend, a long time Apple Fan, has recently grown disenfranchised. He's considering a Windows 8 Ultrabook instead of his previous MacBook Pro. These are the minimum specs he wants: - 8 gig RAM - i7 - 3 ghz His want of an Ultrabook was sparked after seeing my Series 9, but he doesn't want the same computer as me so don't suggest that. He's a sucker for looks, so choose something sexy. If he doesn't buy a PC he's getting a $2000 MacBook Air, so theirs your price range. So any suggestions? I've got a few of my own (searched all the major manufacturer's) but wanted to see what you guys thought was the best. Please help! And no, don't suggest buying a Mac and putting Windows on it.

He could try out one of the Asus Zenbooks I suppose.
It's very light, comes with either i5U or i7U (underclocked of course like most ultrabooks), has a good battery life, uses SSDs instead of HDDs for fast performance and bootup time and the
ASUS ZENBOOK⢠UX32VD even comes with a dedicated graphics card in the Nvidia 620m, which is rare for this category of laptops.
