How long does it take for an average Sony laptop to wipe from dban?

Q. I wiped my laptop and the estimated time keeps going up. From 8hours to 10. I'm starting to regret this.
How do I quit? Or better yet, why does it take so long?

A. That's too long. What's the reason for wiping the hard drive? Are you selling it? If not, you don't need to wipe it before installing a new OS and application.

DBAN is only used when you are going to dispose the hard drive so nothing can be retrieved from it using any recovery program.

What is the safest way to replace the battery in a Sony laptop. Is there anything impotent I need to know?

Q. I remember reading something about making sure to bleed power before using. Is this true and how is this done?

A. just swap it

they are lithium ion batteries and (suppopsedly) have no memory effect issues- nb Never totally discharge li-on batteries- if they drop below a critical level they lock out (aggain apparently)

do try to let it charge fully before disconnecting from mains

Q. My mom's laptop stopped working, so we took it to a place that can fix them. They said the motherboard went out and that it would be 500.00 to replace. Does this sound accurate?

A. Sounds accurate. But for that price it would be better to buy a new one.
